British mining renaissance and the future of battery minerals
Mineral extraction will play a crucial role in the energy transition, as building the low carbon technologies required to combat climate change, such as wind turbines, electric vehicles and batteries, will be hugely mineral intensive. Lithium is one key element for enabling this green revolution, due to its use in lithium ion batteries which are used in electric vehicles. The World Bank estimate that global demand for lithium will rise 965% by 2050 from current levels – which is just one example of the significant increase in demand for certain minerals. The impact of this increased extraction and global supply chains are often overlooked, yet it’s vital that these materials are sourced and extracted in the most responsible manner possible.

Cornish Lithium is exploring for lithium contained within geothermal waters and hard rock in the South West of the UK. By utilising new technologies for both exploration and extraction, the Company aims to produce battery quality lithium in the most environmentally responsible, low carbon manner possible.
